After all, leaving Riddler with a bloody face may be satisfying in the moment, but it isn't going to save whatever victim he might be holding hostage as a contingency plan. Batman's ability to punch his way out of a fight is second to none, but in a battle against the Riddler, simply beating him down is often not enough to win the day. The Riddler, as his name makes clear right off the bat, also loves puzzles, and challenging Batman's brains just as much as his considerable brawn.
